Hakob Simidyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, met with the delegation led by Carolin Geginat, Country Manager of the World Bank for Armenia.
After welcoming the partners at the Ministry of Environment, Hakob Simidyan first congratulated on the launch of the "RESILAND: Armenia Resilient Landscapes Project” and noted that, especially in the context of hosting the COP17 conference in the Republic of Armenia, the programme components aimed at restoring biodiversity and protecting ecosystems are extremely important.
Mrs. Geginat, in her turn, congratulated on hosting one of the largest conferences of the sector in Armenia and wished success to the Ministry of Environment in its responsible mission.
There is significant experience of effective cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and the World Bank.
During the meeting, the parties referred to the jointly implemented programs and discussed many issues of mutual interest.
In particular, the "RESILAND: Armenia Resilient Landscapes Project” was referenced. The project has clear and effective goals that are aimed not only at solving priority environmental problems facing the state, but also at ensuring the socio-economic stability of communities.
The possible work of decontamination of existing chemical waste in "Nairit Factory" CJSC was discussed, and the issues of hazardous waste management in the country were addressed. An agreement was reached to continue the discussions in order to actively cooperate in this direction as well.
